We believe that books connect us and book clubs prove this to be true.
Book clubs in Essex
Whilst we host our own book clubs, we know there are lots of other books clubs in Essex – more than anywhere else in the country. We are happy to direct customers to you as well as offering group discounts to book clubs with minimum orders. Please email us to discuss your next read

Our Book Clubs
Our youngest group (age 7-10), meet at 3pm
Red Lion Books lead the discussions for this age group by gently encouraging members to share their voice but respecting the children who prefer to observe. We usually meet on the last Saturday of the month at 3pm. To reserve a place please buy a copy of the book from Red Lion Books and register your child’s name
Our middle group (age 11-13), meet at 2.30pm
Red Lion Books join in the discussions which are very much led by the children themselves. We usually meet on the last Saturday of the month (subject to change). To reserve a place at book club please purchase a copy of the book from Red Lion Books and register your child’s name.
Our teen group (age 14-16), meet at 2pm
Red Lion Books offers the space for young adults to meet but we don’t join in the conversations (unless asked to!). We usually meet on the last Saturday of the month (subject to change). To reserve a place at book club please purchase a copy of the book from Red Lion Books and register your name
Our daytime adult group (hosted by Appetite Book Club)
Red Lion Books offers a daytime book club which is in association with Appetite Book Club who meet of an evening. Our daytime group meet once a month, offsite, at venues which are wheelchair accessible. Usually meeting on the last Thursday, at 11.30am
Our silent book club
Turn up, read your book. The simplicity of it is beautiful and, in our case, very necessary as we are struggling to find the time to read! We are too busy talking about books to actually read them 😉
Adult book group in the evening is run by Appetite Book Club
Appetite Book Club meet at various venues in Colchester over a 2-course supper and a glass of wine. Please email appetite.book.club@gmail.com for more information about this event which are held in wheelchair accessible venues
